Goldberg

I feel at times that I am at a loss of what to say in this class and that is odd for me, because I love to talk! I feel that a lot of the time I am left out of the loop when it comes to the readings, because they are all addressing the needs of writers and how they should deal with the walls they hit....but this one actually helped! I liked the first part where she talked about obsessions. I do think that focusing in on something that maybe you are not obsessed with, but have a passion for is a good starting point.
Her next points about detail were......I don't know....kind of obvious? I mean isn't common sense to beef things up with detail to enhance the mood of what you are writing about? I am no writer, so correct me if I'm wrong, but that just seemed like maybe she was just trying to fill space!
Syntax, a topic that I despise, because I am a German language major! Sentence structure in the English language is quite forgiving, and for that writers and poets should be thankful, but how much can a sentence be changed so that it still makes sense? In some of the examples given, the whole idea of what was written, before it was scrambled it made sense, but afterwards I was like wtf, what does this have to do with English anymore? There is a point at which changing what makes sense, doesn't make sense.
Okay I think I have bashed her writing enough, so I will check out now. Ha, who would have thought, someone who hates writing commenting on a writers guide to writing!
